YEA employs 72 PWDs in Central Region

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in the Central Region has employed 72 persons with disabilities.

These beneficiaries were employed in five main modules namely; community education teaching assistance, community health workers, youth in Arabic, youth in fire and prisons service.

Briefing the press on the state of the YEA on in the central region, the regional director, Peter Quortey Ayayi asked persons with disabilities across the region to walk to the nearest YEA office for immediate employment.

This he said would reduce the high unemployment rate among persons with disabilities in the region.

He noted the YEA is the second highest employer of persons with disabilities in the country.

In all, the YEA has so far recruited 5,462 youth from the 20 districts of the central region of which 3276 are female and 2286 are male.

The community health workers module employed 1,801, the community education teaching assistance got 1573, community police assistant module received 414, environmental protection officers module 225 and Arabic Teachers 217.

The rest are Fire Service Assistants module 191, Prison Service Assistants 182, Youth in Coastal Sanitation 750, E-Health Workers 89 and Marine Engineering Technicians 20.
Mr. Ayayi said the recruitment was done without party colours but in line with the Youth Employment Act 887 of 2015.

He revealed the region has a flagship project of fish farming at Asebu in the Abura/Asebu/Kwamankesse district which would soon take off.

This he said would train youth interested in fish farming and aid them start up their own  businesses.

The agency in the central region aims at employing 2,170 youth.
