The Upper East Regional Directorate has recruited, trained and employed a total of 4,818 youth in nine modules under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
The beneficiaries consist of 2,650 males, 2,168 females and 31 persons with disability in all the 13 districts of the region.
The directorate has engaged a total of 2,173 youth in the community education teaching assistants, 1,349 in community Health module, 411 in community policing assistants, 119 in prison service assistants and 124 in fire protection assistants.
The rest are 156 in Environmental protection assistants, 224 in Water bodies protection assistants, 202 in Arabic education and 60 in E-Health assistants.
Addressing Journalist in Bolgatanga on the progress of the Youth Employment Agency in reducing the unemployment menace in the country, Upper East Regional director of YEA, Mr. Roger Abolimbisa Akantagriwen said the YEA was on course in addressing poverty and reducing rural-urban migration in the area.
He added that, plans are far advanced to engage 500 youth under the vocational module and not less than 2,000 graduates under the pay internship module.
Explaining why only 31 persons with disability were engaged, Mr. Akantagriwen stated that the number of PWDs under the YEA will increase significantly once the module is activated for recruitment.
Regional Deputy Director in-charge of operations Mr. Jonathan Abdalla reiterated that, all beneficiaries are paid GHC250.00 through the Agricultural Development Bank via their E-switch account numbers monthly.
He said, though most beneficiaries have been paid up to date, some few others in Bongo, Bolgatanga and Nabdam are yet to be paid.
