Ghana may have to invest more to meet the potential increased passenger volumes via long haul flights to and from the country.
This is the suggestion from some international airlines operating in the country.
According to the Country Manager for Air France KLM, Dick Van Niewwenhuyzen, the increased infrastructure will build confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry.
“I see new departure terminals being built; also Ghana recently launched its new cargo centre and I believe the country is undertaking these infrastructure because it sees growth, opportunities to expand the business. I think the market will remain same but the cake will be shared differently among participants in the industry,” he remarked.
The country’s quest to become an aviation hub has also attracted more international and regional flights as they consider Ghana’s regime as favoring their business operations.
Barring any last minute hitch, Air France KLM will also commence its Accra – Paris route in February next year.
The announcement also comes weeks after RwandAir also disclosed to Citi Business News plans to expand its fleet and embark on long haul flights to Europe and Asia to tap into the benefits of the increasing air traffic along that route.
Dick Van Newenhuizen who spoke to Citi Business News at the sidelines of a media interaction to launch the airline’s flight destinations, further opined that the increased competition will enable customers get value for money.
“It will create possibilities for Ghanaians and for business people to fly more…it is good for the country and for business relations. We also have to look at tourism in Ghana being developed since not only Ghanaians will be flown out of the country but other tourists from across the world, that is, the Americans, Brits and the French coming into Ghana.”
AirFrance KLM launches Accra-Paris route
The flight across the Accra-Paris route will commence on February 28, 2017.
This will involve three weekly flights to be operated by Airbus A330 with a capacity of 208 seats until March 27, 2017 after which the Boeing 777-200 with 312 seats and equipped with the latest new Air France travel cabins for the entire summer season.
