The Minister of Interior has, on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by the Executive Instrument, imposed a 6:00pm to 6:00am curfew on the Bimbilla Township.
The curfew takes effect from Friday, June 20, 2014.
According to a statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Interior, James Agalaga, “government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area [Bimbilla] to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace to the area.’’
Renewed sporadic gunshots in Bimbila Township on Thursday led to the killing of Naa Andani and three others.
This has led to a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition and offensive weapons in the Bimbilla Township and surrounding areas.
“…any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,’’ the statement noted.
Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, has pleaded with the people of his constituency to ”allow the rule of law” to take place.
”I will pray and admonish and urge the people to be calm and allow the rule of law to take place in the area and that they should let peace reign for the sake of all the people in the area,” he told Citi News‘ Parliamentary correspondent, Richard Dela Sky in an exclusive interview on Friday.
The audibly troubled MP for the area said the government of the day has a lot of questions to answer over Thursday night’s incident in his constituency.
”All the problems in the North, the security will have lots of answers to give to the people; our people expect that the security will protect their lives and people. It is lawfully right for the security to tell us why that should happen,” he noted.
He also cautioned individuals commenting on the Bimbilla case to be cautious and careful.
The government has also announced a financial package of GHC 100,000 to be awarded to anybody who can provide information leading to the arrest of the murderers of the Overlord of Bimbilla, Naa Andani, on Thursday.
