The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has allayed fears that country may be falling back into its power crisis days by explaining that the recent wide-spread outages were as a result of scheduled maintenance works on some Bulk Supply Points (BSPs).

At a press conference to explain the current happenings, the ECG’s Director of Operations, Engineer Tetteh Okine said the maintenance works on BSPs ended this past Sunday with work in Mallam and Baatsona.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8Gc1zKadwDRWjonGhJbmcVWH7d7zeIZm”]”The climax was on the Sunday when we had two challenges. At the Mallam BSP there were challenges and we needed to work on them urgently. When the Mallam BSP goes off, a large area within the western part of Accra to Kasoa, Nsawam; all of them go off.”

“At the same time, we had another challenge and we had to put of the station at Baatsona which the spans the Spintex road and other areas. So it happened that the western part of Accra was off. Some parts in the Eastern were also off,” he added.

Mr. Okine narrated further that the ECG had to change some equipment at Baatsona in order to make sure that it could stabilize supply from the Baatsona station.

Additionally, some of the equipment at the Mallam station was melting so the work had to be done on them he stated.

Mr. Okine’s explanation buttressed an earlier communiqué released which outline that areas that have been affected by these outages include: Weija, Kokrobite, Bortianor, Tokuse, Aplaku, Dunkonaa, Tetegu, McCarthy Hill, Kwashieman, Fadaman, Tabora, Abeka Lapaz, Santa Maria, Mallam, Korlebu, Awoshie, Dansoman, Odorkor, Ablekuma, Asofa, Anyaa , Ofankor and Sowutuom.

The rest are Tantra hills, Amranhia, Mayera, Oduman, Dome , Kasoa, Nsawam, Regimanuel estates, Teshie, Baatsona and all factories and residences on the Spintex road
