Members of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) have saidthey will reject any political party whose manifesto does not show specific commitment in addressing their needs.

Programmes Officer of PFAG, Charles Kwowe Nyaabe, stated that the manifestoes of the NDC and the NPP lack clarity and what he calls a proper definition of programmes to be rolled out, particularly for Peasant Farmers.

PFAG

Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of a presentation of the Association’s assessment on manifestos of the two main parties, Programmes Officer of PFAG, Charles Kwowe Nyaabe decried how peasant farmers  have been patronized over the years by politicians.

“Our analysis shows that this [the manifestos] is not helping small-holder farmers. In 2012, NDC said they were going to coordinate service provisions to subsistence farmers and aquaculture,” he said

“The NDC government said it would create district agric district agriculture advisory services to provide advise on productivity-enhancing technology such as improved seeds  and breeds pond construction and fingerlings. At the end of the day, these are non-existent.

PFAG

“The point we are making is that they should take farmers seriously. We are going to take whatever they say seriously and we are going to hold them to account to that. But what is in their manifestos now doesn’t show that they are committed to helping small holder farmers grow and we’ve analysed both NDC and NPP’s manifestos.”
