A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the commencement of construction works on a multi-purpose Fire Academy and Training Centre in Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North District of the Brong Ahafo region.

This is to help reduce the incident of fire disasters in the area.

On completion, it would have an administration block, male and female dormitories, fire station, security post, simulation square, maintenance workshop, communication centre and swimming a pool.

The Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Council has already made available 15,000 cement blocks and heaps of sand in support of the project.

Mrs. Adelaide Annor-Kumi, Chief Director of the Interior Ministry, described as deeply disturbing the rate at which lives and property, were being lost to fires.

The situation, she said, could not be allowed to continue and urged everybody to heed safety education.

She hinted of the introduction of a law that would require the installation of a fire detector in every house.

Dr.  Albert Brown Gaisie, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO), called for all to find space to contribute to the fire prevention effort.

He said it was important for the people to cooperate with firefighters and accepted to be more careful and to do the right things to avoid fire outbreaks.

He hailed the chiefs for releasing the 30-acre land for the project and supplying of some building materials.

Nana Boakye Tromo III, Paramount Chief of Duayaw-Nkwanta, appealed to the government to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
