Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alex Afenyo-Markin is also asking government and the Ministry of Finance to immediately address the financial crisis that has hit the Judicial Service to prevent a total shutdown of the third arm of the state.

The Ghana Bar Association in a statement on Wednesday charged government to release its subvention to ensure the smooth running of its service. It noted that the Judicial Service has been paralyzed by lack of funds.

But speaking on Eyewitness News the Member of Parliament Finance Committee, said ‘’the government must be proactive in ensuring that necessary approval are released on time…’’

According to him the same way government spends without parliament approval, it should also tackle the Judicial Service, which is an institution of state with all urgency.

He also noted that parliament will take up the complaints of the judiciary and address it. ‘’We [parliament] will take it up; this matter will be taken up because the judiciary is a key partner in our governance system,’’ he added.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin further mentioned the judiciary issue must not be reduced to a “blame game.”

He also urged the GBA to lobby the executive on the increase of their Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The GBA in a statement called on Parliament to without further delay to increase the percentage of the internally generated funds, from 15% to 75%.

The MP said the non-performance of the judiciary will affect everyone in society. He called on corporate Ghana to also support the judiciary as part of Corporate Social Responsibility.
