Ghana’s Black Maidens were eliminated from the Women’s U-17 World Cup in Jordan following a 2-1 loss to Korea DPR in Irbid on Thursday.

The Maidens had lost to Asian opposition in Japan at the start of the tournament and were hoping for better outing against the 2008 Women’s U-17 World Cup champions.

The two teams shared the domination of the first half but it was Korea that got the opener in the 36th minute through Kim Pom Ui from the penalty spot following a foul from Grace Acheampong.

The Maidens improved after half time and went for the equaliser despite looking shaky in defence.

They were rewarded in the 81 st minute with a goal from Gifty Acheampong. She rose to meet an overhead kick and flicked the ball past the Korean goalie as the defence stood watching.

The match looked set for extra time but Korea won a free kick down the right after a foul from substitute Rita Anokye.

The free kick was played into the penalty box but it was not properly cleared by the defence and Ja Un Jong stabbed the ball home to break Ghanaian hearts and send Korea to the semis to face Venezuela.
