The Minister of Health, Sherry Ayittey has reiterated the need for new administrative reforms at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ashanti region.

This follows a recent controversy that engulfed the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a woman named Suweiba lost the baby she delivered at the hospital under mysterious circumstances.

This incident outraged Ghanaians thereby causing the  Ministry of Health to investigate the matter.

A final report has since been released by the Ministry of Health. The report exonerated the doctor who was on duty during the delivery while the two midwives who were on duty are to be suspended.

The report however, made no mention of the whereabouts of the missing baby.

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho  has ordered for report on the whereabouts of Suweiba’s baby.

However, In an interview with Citi News  Madam Ayittey  noted that “The Suweiba report dealt with two(2) issues, it deals with professional practice, administration and the criminal aspect”

She also expressed confidence in the publication by the Medical and Dental Council; “the medical and dental council investigated extensively the conduct of the doctors involved and came out with their findings”

Sherry Ayittey further urged Ghanaians to respect the findings published in the recent Suweiba report; “We have an institution that we need to respect and I believe democracy thrives when you have strong institutions and you respect the institution”

“So by their mandate the Medical and Dental Council investigated the conduct of the doctors and established their report” – she added.
