The District Chief Executive for Agona East, Martin Luther Obeng has pledged to personally enroll some three pregnant BECE candidates in Senior High Schools if they obtain the pass grade.

This comes after the Ministry of Education served a notice on Monday warning to sanction supervisors who prevented pregnant girls from writing the on-going Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

A total of 422,946 candidates from 12, 562 public and private Junior High Schools (SHS) across the country are currently sitting for the 2014 BECE examination.

However a recent report published by the Ghana Education service revealed that, 3 out of about 1500 female candidates in the Agona East district were pregnant.

This situation had sparked fears among residents of the Agoan east district  that these pregnant girls were going to be prevented from sitting for the exams.

However, in an interview with Citi News after touring 5 examination centers in the area, Martin Luther Obeng pledged to personally ensure the pregnant girls were not ostracized but allowed to take part in the examination.

He later congratulated the girls for mustering courage to write their exams.

“For those three girls I am really going to talk to them, speak to their parents and if they perform better I will personally fund their education at the Senior High school level.”

The  Basic Examination Certificate Exams(BECE) is expected to last for five days.
