Black Maidens head coach Evans Adotey says that conceding early goals against Japan totally unsettled his team and that led to a 5-0 loss.

Ghana conceded as early as the 7th minute and by the end of the first half, the Black Maidens were four goals down.

Adotey believes that the quick goals affected his team. “We had a game plan today. I knew that in our opening match we’d be facing a very strong Japanese side. I know their strengths and that’s why I wanted to put them under pressure early on. However, we conceded easy goals far too quickly.

“They were simple passes that completely took out our entire defence,” he said after the match to FIFA.com.

However, he did not feel bogged down by the result and was confident that the Maidens could get a good result in their next two group matches against the USA on Tuesday and Paraguay on Saturday.

“We’ve still got two more games and we’re by no means out of the competition yet. We’ll bounce back against USA and get back to our old strength. I’ll learn some lessons from today’s game and maybe go back to playing simple football and playing on the break,” he said.
