The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP,) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has dismissed the streak of promises made by the presidential nominees of both the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing a crowd at Manso in the Mpohor Constituency of the Western Region, Dr. Nduom called on voters to disregard President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to provide one million jobs should he be retained in office for a second term.
He also dismissed the promise by the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to set up a factory in every district.
“President Mahama went to the Flagstaff House staff house and has brought dumsor, disease, poverty and unemployment despite his numerous promises….Mahama said he will create 1 million jobs when he wins the elections, those are vague promises. Nana Addo says he will send a factory each to each town. I wonder why he [Nana Addo] waited till now, the answer is simple, he can’t do it,” Dr. Nduom stated
The PPP’s flagbearer was in the town with his running mate, Ms. Brigette Dzogbenuku, and they were welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd.
He called on the people to make the right choice in the Decembers’s polls, stating that voting the PPP into power would translate into good jobs and better living conditions.
“If you vote badly, it will affect you for four years – it will lead to poverty, disease and unemployment,” he said.
“Vote for jobs, potable water, good roads, stable electricity supply, access to good health care among others, if you vote for someone who does not give you what they promised, you have wasted your vote.”
Nduom stated that, although previous administrations had chalked some achievements, they were still not good enough as problems which existed during their respective tenures still persist.
“I will never say Rawlings, Kufuor or Mahama have not done anything; however despite all their ‘works’, malaria, poverty, bad roads and unemployment still lingers,” he said
Nduom also introduced the party’s Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, J. B. Aubyn, and appealed to the voters to endorse him in the upcoming election and “see what he will do for the constituency.”
Dr. Nduom told the crowd that Ms. Dzobgenuku has vast experience in rural enterprises and its development and that is something worth considering.
The Chief for the area appealed for assistance for the completion of the community centre. He also lameneted bad roads in the area.
“Any time it rains heavily, we are unable to access Kojokom till after three months.”
The traditional leader also appealed for an ambulance for a small a clinic in the area as nurses turn patients with extreme cases away.
