The Upper West Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Dr. Suleiman Bakuri, has called on Muslims in the region to pray for peace ahead of the December polls.

According to him, although the country has witnessed peace in its previously elections, there is need to continue to ask God to sustain it.

He said “as we mark this important day on the Islamic calendar, let us commit ourselves to peace before, during and after the elections. We must not take the peace we enjoyed for granted because it took prayers and a lot of sacrifices to bring us this far ”

The Chief iImam reiterated that peace is a fundamental pivot on which Islam revolves hence the need for Muslims to imbibe in themselves the spirit of peace even with non-Muslims.

He called on Muslims across the region to pray for President Mahama and his ministers.

“Let us pray for the president and the entire leadership of this country so that they can execute what they intend for this country ” he said.

Unlike some previous years where the Eid prayer was marked on different days by the various Muslim sects, today’s festival was observed by all the Muslim groups across the region.

Mulvi Musafar Mashruur Ahamed led the Ahamadiya Muslims at the Jujedeyiri school park, while Shaik Ahamed Abubakar also led the Ahalisunna waljamat Muslims to observe the Eid prayer at Wa Secondary Technical School park.

No major incident occurred as Muslims, clad in black and white turned out in their numbers to mark the day.
