The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Muslims to pray for a credible and transparent election this year.
In a statement to mark the Eid ul-Adha celebrations today [Monday], Nana Addo called on Muslims to take advantage of ‘one of Islam’s holiest months’ to implore Allah to keep Ghanaians safe as they head to the polls at the end of the year.

May we all take advantage of this month to pray for the success of our country and to pledge to do all in our power to contribute to the forward movement of Ghana, including our ability to sacrifice for the progress of our motherland,” the statement from Nana Addo said.
“We should pray also, in this election year, for credible, fair and transparent elections whose peaceful outcome will further consolidate the peace, unity and democracy of Ghana.”
Eid ul–Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son.
It is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
The opposition leader also asked all Ghanaians to remain united in spite of differences in religions and beliefs “us as we reflect on the life of one of the most obedient servants of God.”
Ghanaians will go to the polls in December to elect a new president as well as Members of Parliament.
Incumbent President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is seeking to have a second term in office while Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP is vying to unseat the former.

I wish all Muslims in Ghana and around the world, a joyful Eid ul-Adha celebration. I pray that the spirit of sacrifice that inspired Prophet Ibrahim to accept God’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael will continue to animate our activities and dealings with one another as faithfuls of God and as citizens of Ghana.
