It has emerged that residents if the Eastern Region risk losing the Birim River as a source of potable water if illegal mining activities along its banks are not curtailed immediately.

The situation is so dire that currently, the Kyebi Water Treatment Plant, which takes its source from the River, is contemplating a complete shutdown; a situation that will come with severe consequences.

Citi News Kojo Agyemang visited the area to assess the situation and has come through with this report.
