A New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Francis Addai-Nimoh is dismissing suggestions that he is contesting the party’s presidential race to test his popularity in the party.

He described such assertions as cheap propaganda from the camp of his opponents. Speaking in an interview with Citi News, The 41-year-old Member of Parliament (MP) from Mampong said he is in the race because he believes he can win and change the fortunes of the NPP come 2016.

He admitted that the flagbearership race is for party bigwigs but urged party supporters to focus on his potential.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh served notice he will not be intimidated by such propaganda against him because he has the conviction he will succeed but not “to test the waters because there could be other forms of testing the waters.”

“I am in the contest to win. I am not just in the contest to add my name and myself to it. let it not be said that way,” he cautioned.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh is the fifth member of the NPP to pick up nomination forms for the NPP presidential contest.

If another frontrunner, Alan Kyeremanteng picks up the form, the NPP will be heading for a special electoral college.

The party’s constitution says if more than 5 candidates file and are vetted to contest, a special electoral college of some 847 party executives including all 275 constituency chairman and all NPP MPs will vote to reduce the number to a short list of five candidates.
