The Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed that the regular practice of sending Black Stars players based outside the country business class tickets to report for games will not be possible ahead of their upcoming game.
The decision means that 21 out of the 23 players called up will have to fund their own journey to Ghana.
Deputy skipper of the team Andre Ayew has offered to purchase tickets for a number of his teammates who will not be in the position to do so according to Spokesperson for the GFA Ibrahim Saani Daara.
Ibrahim Saani Daara also confirmed that head coach of the team Avram Grant is aware of the position of the Ministry.
Ghana take on Rwanda on September 3 in their final Afcon 2017 qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium having already booked their spot in the competition.
The Black Stars sit atop Group H with 13 points from 5 games played and have scored 13 goals so far while conceding just 2.
Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM added that such monies will be better spent on other sporting disciplines.
“We don’t have the money to finance this particular match because we are putting money together to take care of our Paralympic team who will be competing in the Paralympic games and also the Black Maidens who will competing in the World Championships in Jordan.
“If the GFA have money to buy tickets for the Black Stars then they should do so because we don’t have the money.
“All the money we have is for the Paralympic team and the Maidens.
“We haven’t even been able to raise enough money for these two,”he revealed.
The position of the Ministry will officially be communicated to the Ghana Football Association today.
