The Ketu South Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region, has assured to fix the roof of the Adafienu EP Basic School which had its roofs ripped off after a downpour.

This follows Citi News’ report on the deplorable state of the school’s structure.

The school, which is also the alma mater of Citi FM’s Richard Dela Sky, had its roof blown off in July this year.

[contextly_sidebar id=”BX7cOQDKvWWy4OXwNFxcvz4V7TWY5Jbu”]According to the head teacher, Madam Leticia Yorke, several efforts including a call on the Assembly in the area to have the problem fixed have proved futile.

But in an interview with Citi News, MCE for the area, Pascal Lamptey, said the re-roofing will be done before the next academic year.

“We applied to NADMO for some roofing sheets which we have in our warehouse currently. We are talking to our carpenters and masons to get the place ready before our children come back from the vacation. Today (Friday), the carpenter will come to the site and give his final assessment of what has to be done including the number of sheets to be used. Then Saturday, we get the nails that will be enough for the work and by Monday we will replace all the roofing sheets.”

The Municipal Chief Executive also explained that work had delayed because they needed to access other schools in the assembly facing similar challenges. According to him, the assembly is planning a major renovation of all schools established in the early 70s including clearing of schools under trees.

“Our plan now is to work on areas that have schools under trees. If we are able to replace all those schools under trees with permanent classroom blocks then we can now come back to working on the schools which were built in the early 70s because as at now those facilities are very weak.”
