The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential nominee, Nana Akufo-Addo has asked the Presbyterian church to support his fight against corruption in the country.
Nana Addo believes the church has a major role to play in ensuring that society ends all acts of corruption.
[contextly_sidebar id=”WbDy3hC8xSl9ayuIVsFZaFin9EaGF2eN”]Speaking at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Abetifi in the Eastern Region, Nana Addo said an NPP administration under his leadership would need the help of the church in its bid to sanitise government.
He spoke of “a holistic approach of dealing with the toxic issue of corruption” as he appealed to the Presbyterian church “to give crucial support to the next NPP government as it undertakes these crucial steps. Our very future depends on this.”
“We will support all moves to give Parliament greater oversight capabilities over the activities of the executive. This will give true meaning to the principle of separation of powers and accountable governance,” Nana Addo added.
What has Nana Addo said about corruption?
On the campaign trail ahead of the polls, Nana Addo has been reiterating his promise to establish a special prosecutor’s office within the first six months of his administration, if elected President.
He has explained that such an office will have legal backing and will be independent of the Executive tasked with an “an exclusive remit to investigate and prosecute certain categories of cases and allegations of corruption”
Nana Addo has also said he would ensure that the Public Procurement Act (Act 663) is adhered to in awarding of contracts.
