The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have told Citi News that the facility’s labour ward has resumed operations.
Citi News’ reported on Tuesday that the hospital suspended new admissions due to some faulty equipment at the department.
Checks by Citi News at the facility revealed that the anesthetic machine at the wards theatre had broken down forcing staff to refer emergency cases to other facilities.
[contextly_sidebar id=”5uX9fPedZ7taRSahl2w3CO6uTABUpBJc”]Patients who reported to the hospital with emergency cases therefore had to look for alternative sources of care.
But in an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Hospital Mustapha Salifu explained that the decision was taken in the best interest of patients to avert any danger.
He earlier told Citi News he was however optimistic that the facility might open for admissions today following repair works carried out on the oxygen machine
“We had a problem with oxygen supply to the maternity block. Oxygen is very vital for us to undertake certain procedures in the hospital. Those who are first comers, we are advising that they should go to other hospitals…because if we take them on, there is a likelihood that we may record fatalities so we don’t want to put the lives of our patients in danger that is why we took such decision.”
“Thankfully the problem with the oxygen plant has been resolved…currently we are doing test planning so hopefully by today if everything stabilizes, we will resume normal operation,” the PRO added.
