The Electoral Commission (EC) will from today [Wednesday] begin accepting applications for proxy voting.

According to the Commission, persons who wish to apply for proxy voting must report at the commission’s head office or all district offices together with their appointed proxy to be processed.

A statement from the electoral body and signed by its Head of Communications Eric Dzakpasu said the exercise will end on September 26.

The statement further added that any appointed proxy must be a registered voter.

Below is the full statement from the Commission:

We wish to announce for the information of the general public that the Commission will from Wednesday August 17 to Monday September 26, 2016 accept applications for Proxy Voting.

A registered voter who wishes to apply for voting by proxy is required to visit the Commission’s Head Office or the District Office of the Commission in his/her Constituency not later than 26th September, 2016 together with his or appointed proxy to be processed. Alternatively, the appointed proxy may pick the proxy forms on behalf of the applicant to be completed and returned to the Commission’s district office before the specified deadline of 26th September, 2016.

In order to qualify to vote by proxy, the applicant:

  1. Must be a registered voter, who due to ill-health or absence from his/her constituency will be unable to vote on Election Day.
  2. The appointed proxy must be a registered voter.
  3. Shall not appoint more than one person at the same time as a proxy.

Thank you.

Signed:

ERIC KOFI DZAKPASU
