Ghana’s Alex Amankwah could not progress to the latter stages of the men’s 800m event after he finished 7th in the heats.

Amankwah, whose heat was the 6th, started the race well and was fourth at a point in the race but he could not put together a good finish.

He fell behind and eventually finished last after Abdelati El Guesse of Morocco got injured at a point.

The heat was won by Canada’s Brando McBride in a time of 1:45.99.

Amankwah ranked 47th overall in the event.
