Fire has gutted parts of the Kumasi Central market in the Ashanti region destroying properties worth thousands of cedis.
The fire which started about 1am also destroyed about 300 wooden structures.
According to Citi FM’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu, the fire service personnel had difficulties in putting out the fire.
This , she said, was due to lack of access to the affected area.Thus the fire spread to other areas.
The fire service personnel however managed to bring the inferno under control at about 6:30am.
Scores of the traders, upon hearing of the incident rushed to the scene to check on their goods.
It has been a scene of sorrow, anguish and pain as scores of traders, mostly women, who had lost valuable items and goods running into thousands of Ghana cedis ,wept uncontrollably over the loss of their wares.
The police have intensified security in the area to maintain law and order as well as prevent theft, a situation associated with most market fires.
The place that got burnt last year was mainly for cooking utensils, cosmetics, and the clothe dealers.
