NDC MP aspirant sues Peace FM over ‘skirt and blouse’ claims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Domeabra Obom constituency, Sophia Karen Ackuaku, has sued Peace FM over a publication on the station’s website that she had urged her constituents to engage in “skirt and blouse” voting in the elections.

She had earlier admonished the public to disregard the story on peacefmonline.com, stating that it was completely false.

[contextly_sidebar id=”k3YLBOERbHxUSlw8iQAhqTSSuZNae9R7″]A member of her campaign team, Amos Blessing Amorse told Ghanapoliticsonline: “I can confirm that Honourable Sophia has caused her lawyers to issue a writ against Peace FM over a false story they published about her.”

“Skirt and blouse” voting is a phenomenon in elections where people vote for one party’s candidate in the presidential elections but vote for a different party’s candidate in the parliamentary polls.

According to her, at no point in time during her visit to Tebu in the constituency, did she advise the people to vote against President John Mahama in the presidential elections in November as the report had claimed.

“At no point in time during our deliberation was the issue of who to vote for in this year’s election came up for discussion. Is it not ironic, if not baffling, that I will impress on electorates to vote for me and vote against President Mahama in a constituency that has kept faith with the NDC since 2004 when it was created,” a statement from the parliamentary aspirant said.

“This publication is nothing far from fictional journalistic work cooked in a dilapidated kitchen of falsehood and deceit, and I appeal to the general public to ignore it for what it is-an obvious concoction intended to serve as stumbling block to our quest not only to retain the Domeabra-Obom seat, but deliver 90 percent of the presidential vote in aide of President Mahama’s one-touch victory”

Amos Blessing Amorse  added that although the aspirant wanted to maintain cordial relations with the media, it was important to ‘take action’ if she feels she’s been slighted.

“It is not the wish of Hon Sophia Ackuaku to be embroiled in legal battle with any media house…since all attempts to get managers of peace FM to do the right thing fell on deaf ears, she was compelled to take this action to clear her name. The case is now in court so I am restrained in running commentary on it,” he noted
