19 die in accident at Subiriso [Photos]

Nineteen people, including the driver of the Ford Mini bus they were in,  were killed yesterday in a tragic accident at Subiriso, near Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East District of the Western Region.

The bus was travelling from Bogoso to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region when it collided with a truck loaded with bags of cement last night [Saturday] around 7:30 pm.

Speaking to Citi News, the Wassa Amenfi East District Police commander ASP Agyekum Nipa says the bus hit the rear of truck which, was stationary at the time.

“When the Ford bus reached Wassa Subiriso, which is not too far from Wassa Akropong, the bus hit the rear of the DAF articulated truck which was loaded with cement and had developed a mechanical fault” he said.

He added that nineteen persons made up of eleven males and eight females sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital.

“After attending to the injured for some time, the doctor informed the police that they had all died and also added that the bodies had been sent to the mortuary” he said.

One dead in Santasi accident

At least one person died in an accident at Santasi Anyinam, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Saturday.

Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent Hawa Idrissu reported that several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital for treatment .
