Nearly three days into the search for the five persons who drowned in River Fulesu at Sika Ne Asem in the Prestea Huni Valley District, the rescue team deployed by the Chief of the town Nana Kwamena Numuah III have still not  found the bodies.

The inability to retrieve bodies according to Frederick Quansah, a resident, has rendered residents sad and the town quiet.

“The town is very quiet and silent. The chief and the people sat at the river bank yesterday till close of day hoping of finding any of the bodies, but did not see anything, we are all mourning,” Quansah indicated.

He said the river is expected to “release the dead on day three as is believed when such incident occurs.”

Despite the rising level of the river which hampered efforts on Saturday, the chief is prompted to deploy more skillful divers to continue the search in the river.

Five persons on Saturday said to be from the same family drowned after a canoe in which they were travelling capsized.

The five- a woman, her three daughters and a baby- were crossing River Fulesu to Prestea and later travel to Tarkwa for a Jehovah’s Witness convention.

But their canoe capsized at Sika Ne Asem in the Prestea-Huni Valley district drowning all five on board.
