The Central Committee of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has rejected a recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee of the Party to reinstate suspended General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and National Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah.

The Central Committee of the party argued that “certain basic tenants of natural justice were not observed before the determination of the matter,” hence its decision.

[contextly_sidebar id=”813d2NGSYGOsLy61sxnD5fVZgzfwlUnK”]The two officers  were suspended following what the party described as a breach of its disciplinary code after they publicly contradicted their flagbearer’s position on President Mahama’s Ford gift saga. The two were subsequently referred to the Disciplinary Committee.

Despite the recommendation to reinstate the two, the Communications Director of the Party, Kadir Abdul Rauf Issifu, explained to Citi News that the Disciplinary Committee was only directed to “examine the issues that have been brought against the General Secretary and the Youth Organiser and advise the Central Committee accordingly.”

“We declined to accept the report and we asked them to go back and ensure that due diligence is done on the matter before we can even entertain the report for discussion in the first place,” Mr. Rauf Issifu stated.

Legal Affairs Committee had not charged the two

Mr. Rauf Issifu explained that the Legal Affairs Committee of the party had not even handed down charges but “before the Legal Affairs Committee of the party could hand down charges that were leveled against the General Secretary and the Youth Organiser, the Disciplinary committee of the party had already made a determination on the matter.”

“We think that it was careless and that certain relevant facts concerning this same matter, they didn’t avail themselves to it so for that matter, the party has declined to accept the report.”

Mr. Rauf Issifu also confirmed that the suspended officers “will have to remain interdicted until such time where proper due diligence is done on their matter.”
