The Supreme Court today [Monday] handed a four-month prison sentence to the Host of the ‘Pampaso’ political show on Accra-based Montie FM, Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, and the two panelists, Alistair Nelson, and Godwin Ako Gunn, after they were found guilty of contempt.

The two panelists had threatened to kill judges of the Supreme Court during one of the discussions on the show.

In Ghana, Twitter has been awash with hot takes following the verdict with majority of people expressing satisfaction with the ruling.

The three were also fined GHc 30,000, with each of them paying GHc 10,000. A section of twitter viewed the ruling as an affirmation of the justice system.

Law works

One Twitter user even garnered an explanation for the four month sentence from the Kpokpogbligbli incident.

Some were however unhappy with the four month sentence as as they felt it was not harsh enough, following the threat on the lives of Supreme Court judges.

One of the takeaways from the Montie FM saga is; radio stations better start issuing disclaimers for their programmes as the owners are to pay heavy fines.

The four directors of  Network Broadcasting Limited, owners of Montie FM; Ato Ahwoi, Edward Addo, Kwesi Kyei Atuah, and Kwesi Bram Addo, are to pay a fine of Ghc30,000. Mr. Harry Zakuor, owner of Zeze media, which owns Montie FM frequency, 100.1, is also to pay a separate fine of Ghc30,000.

They were however a few who felt this sentence was not deserved and paraded the mantra “to err is human”.
