Students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery – University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, are demanding that the  its strategies for absorbing graduate nurses into the mainstream of the health sector.

This, they said, was necessary to assuage their fear and uncertainty about the future, considering the current situation, where over 5,000 degree nurses are unemployed.

[contextly_sidebar id=”kITlvIw0Rh63Ael3h2v2Rr8vTmMUegVk”]A statement signed by their leader, Mr. Prince Deladem Adjei, expressed discomfort with the government’s policy, requiring graduate nurses to apply for employment into the health sector.

The students indicated that this was only going to worsen an already bad situation.

They said they found it pointless to establish the UHAS to train more nurses, when there will be no jobs for them.

They therefore asked that the government acts with urgency to address the plight of the unemployed graduates to prevent public backlash.

They said it is important that nobody glosses over the security threat posed by the growing joblessness.
