24339_112099022156270_1719151_nThe Human Rights Advocacy Center is calling for an investigation and subsequent prosecution of the security personnel who ordered three girls who allegedly stole from a shop in the Accra mall to crawl out of the premises.

The Executive Director of the Center, Robert Akoto Amoafo on Eyewitness News explained that “once there is a clear violation of the law… which states that ‘the dignity of all persons shall be inviolable…”

Three girls were on Monday forced to crawl out of the Accra Mall for allegedly stealing underwear from Mr. Price, a shop at the mall.

Videos and photographs of the act which have since gone viral on the various social media sites have received mixed reactions from the public.

Women in Law and Development (WILDAF), has encouraged the girls to sue the security personnel who ordered the humiliating act and the management of the mall.

Mr. Amoafo has maintained that the human rights law as stipulated in the 1992 constitution has been “violated to the barest minimum by what has happened to these three girls.”

He disclosed that his outfit will write to the management of Mr. Price to demand the punishment of its security personnel.

To ensure that they comply with the demand, Mr. Mr. Amoafo stated that the shop management will be given an ultimatum and “if it not done, we will take it to the next level which might be to go to a court of law for this to be interpreted.”

According to him, the mere refusal by Youtube to allow the video be posted on its platform is indicative that it is a violation of human rights.

He maintained that action must be taken on the matter so that “it doesn’t happen again in Ghana. We want to protect the human rights and dignity of every individual.”
