A Tamale High Court has fined a failed National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary hopeful, Namburi Derrick GHc 20, 000 in connection with a lawsuit brought against the party.

This was contained in a ruling by Justice Charles Gyamfi, who presided over a year-long legal battle between the NDC and the litigant.

Mr. Namburi Derrick dragged the NDC to court over the party’s National Executive Committee’s decision to reject his nomination at the vetting of Parliamentary hopefuls in the Bunkprugu constituency.

He insinuated in his plea that, he was disqualified on suspicion that he is a member of the NDC breakaway National Democratic Party (NDP).

The court formally granted him an interlocutory injunction. As a former Member of Parliament for the area, his action halted the Parliamentary primary there.

The NDC’s Northern Regional Director of Elections, Tanko Rashid, alias computer commended the Presiding Judge for upholding the party’s application.

He thereby cautioned party members against such unruly behavior.  He told Citi News the party requested for GHc100.000 fine, but the Judge’s leniency necessitated the GHc20.000 fine slapped on the litigant.

He served notice that the NDC Northern Regional leadership will not countenance indiscipline within its fold.

Until the court’s verdict, the Bunkpurugu constituency remained the only one in the Northern Region without a Parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the NDC.

A date is yet to be fixed for the Parliamentary primary with barely four months into the 2016 polls.
