A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Akosua Darkwah, has described former Vice Chancellor, Prof Alexander Adum Kwapong, as a change maker who influenced not just the University of Ghana community, but also the nation at large.
According to her, the late Prof Kwapong deserves credit for the many foundations that eventually saw the shaping of the now globally recognized University of Ghana.
Speaking at the launch of the memoir of the late university teacher and administrator, Dr. Darkwah praised him for his “determination to restore the university to a vibrant intellectual environment”, by ensuring that faculty members contributed to, and continually published The Legon Observer on prevailing national discourse.
She said also lauded Professor Kwapong for laying the foundations for the construction of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, and the University of Ghana Teaching Hospital currently under construction.
The book; A Life in Education: A Memoir, narrates the life and works of the late professor as a teacher and an administrator.
Launching the book, Chairman of the University of Ghana Council, Justice Prof S. K. Date-Bah, described it as an “invaluable material on the history and evolution of this University of Ghana”.
The first two initial copies of the memoir were auctioned at ten thousand Ghana cedis each.
