The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, has defended government’s management of the agricultural sector saying that the many interventions put in place to revamp the sector are yet to bear fruits.
Speaking on Viasat One’s ‘The Ghana Report’, Alhaji Limuna posited that “ even if agriculture is dying, and it’s not dead, then it can be revived.”

Although the Agriculture Minister admitted that“the contribution of agric to GDP has slumped from 39% on average, between 2002 and 2008 to 19%”, he assured that government policies in that sector will soon deliver results that will transform agriculture in the country.
According to him, “agric is in a transition. We’ve gotten to a point where it is normal in development for agric to behave the way it is behaving, but it doesn’t mean it’s the best.”
Alhaji Limuna added that, there is the need for refocusing, modernization and other innovations to be brought on board in order to boost the sector.
Gov’t’s commitment to agric only rhetoric – Afriyie Akoto
The Minority Spokesperson on Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, in reaction to the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper’s presentation of the 2016 mid-year supplementary budget to Parliament, chided government for not showing enough commitment to the agric sector.
