The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Greater Accra Region, has said it has evidence to prove that the Electoral Commission deliberately removed the names of some of its members from the electoral roll.
According to the party, a lot of its members have complained about the removal of their names from the roll, although they did not register with a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card.
[contextly_sidebar id=”rUCENuRI4L0IlkTR6PH4Q4xdZGJ2WYKR”]The EC on Monday July 18, commenced an exhibition exercise to allow prospective voters to verify their personal details on the voters’ register.
Voters who registered with NHIS cards, and whose names have been deleted from the roll following an order from the Supreme Court, will also be allowed to re-register during the period.
‘It looks more like an NDC prepared list’
Speaking on the claims in a Citi News interview, the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NPP, Adjei Sowah said “If we verify the list, it looks more like an NDC [National Democratic Congress] prepared list to the EC to make sure that they take away our supporters from the register.”
According to him, “A lot of people have complained to us that they did not register with the NHIS card and yet their names have been deleted from the register. We have also seen a lot of people who have come to us saying they indeed registered with the NHIS card but their names have not been deleted.”
Mr. Sowah further revealed that, the party will soon present their evidence to the relevant agencies.
“We are in the process of compiling all these reports and we will submit it to the general public and the appropriate quarters at the appropriate time.”
NPP blowing ‘hot air’
But the NDC in the region has rejected the claims saying the accusations by the NPP has no merit.
“This is hot air being blown. There is no incidence of that… you go to the centres that they even made mention of and nothing of that sort is happening. Nobody’s name has been removed. It is just hot air being blown,”the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the NDC Anthony Nukpenu told Citi News.
