Lawyer for Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, Edudzi Tamakloe, has asked members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency to rally behind their parliamentary nominee to retain the seat in the 2016 election, saying the incumbent MP is not viewed as an enemy.
The defeated incumbent MP at the party’s primary in November 2015, Nii Armah Ashietey, went to court to challenge the eligibility of Dr. Zanetor to contest, arguing that she was not a registered voter at the time.
[contextly_sidebar id=”e2gSVaDcMhwxRLdvkV8nvojvSayWCoQu”]But the Supreme Court on Monday cleared Dr. Zanetor to contest in the upcoming election, saying the allegation leveled against her does not hold.
Speaking on Eyewitness News hours after the ruling, Mr. Tamakloe stated that, the party does not see Nii Armah Ashietey as an opponent despite his decision to challenge Dr. Zanetor’s eligibility.
Eva Lokko, Philip Addison are our real opponents
Mr. Edudzi , who is also the Greater Accra Regional Deputy Youth Organizer of the NDC, believes party members should rather see candidates of other parties as opponents and focus on ensuring that the NDC retains the seat.
“It is important that we all get behind her. She is our candidate. There is a common opponent out there in the person of Lawyer Philip Addison and Madam Eva Lokko. These are the real opponents as far as these elections are concerned. I do not see Nii Armah as an opponent in this regard. It is important that everybody gets on board that together the party will retain that seat..”
“Our busiest challenge now is how to get everybody behind Doctor. She is the face of the constituency now. There is no legal challenge to it. It is important that we get all the factions in this matter behind her. I have no doubt that in 2008, the NDC together with everybody who mattered stood behind the honorable Nii Armah Ashietey.”
