The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured residents of Agogo, in the Asante Akim North constituency, that if voted into office in this year’s elections, the tensions with Fulani herdsmen will be thing of the past.

Nana Addo assured that an NPP government will institute policies that will “ensure that this Fulani menace is ended once and for all.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”dmqEftm6Zj6c8i3GYl1cWW74xR4fjMhk”]The NPP flagbearer made these remarks when he ended his 5-day tour of the Ashanti Region, with a courtesy call on the Krontihene of Agogo, Nana Kwame Nti, who sat in state on behalf of the Agogohene, Nana Akuoko Sarpong.

Agogo, in recent years, has been a hot bed of Fulani herdsmen related tensions with residents complaining about the activities of Fulani herdsmen who they say have destroyed their farmlands.

This development has led to several clashes between the herdsmen and local farmers, resulting in the loss of life and property in some instances.

Agogo situation unacceptable

This situation, according to Nana Addo, is unacceptable as other countries across the world have put in place policies, which have meant that, such clashes have been forestalled.

“Brazil has a population of 200 million people, and 213 million cattle. There are more cattle in Brazil than human beings. However, ranching and the implementation of policies have ensured that this situation has not created any problems. Humans do not mingle with the cattle. These are the kinds of policies we are coming to put in place, when, God-willing, we win the elections, to ensure that this Fulani menace is ended once and for all.”

Vigilante actions to cease

Nana Addo also assured that the issue of unsolved murders in Agogo, as a result of the clashes, which has led to some people taking the law into their own hands will also be addressed with the strengthening of security services.

“We must make sure that the law is enforced. We are coming to strengthen and equip the Ghana Police Service with the requisite tools, and also enhanced conditions of service to ensure that they carry out the law to the latter. When someone does wrong, that person must be punished without fear or favour,” the NPP flagbearer stated.
