The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has confirmed the payment of their book and research allowance.

The union had been complaining about the delay of the payment of the allowances for the 2015/2016 academic year which in previous years led to strikes by the lecturers and disrupted the academic calendars.

[contextly_sidebar id=”cvwsgS6TPBR2K8dkxcmWb55vKWKUASSz”]President John Mahama earlier announced that GHc 37 million had been paid by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for the payment of the allowances.

Speaking to Citi News, the UTAG president Dr. Harry Agbanu stated that the various universities have now received their cheques.

“On Friday, all campuses picked up their checks from the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE),” he noted.

Dr. Agbanu stated that he ” was reliably informed by the presidents of the various campuses that the checks were deposited by their various campuses hoping that by Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday thereabout, their accounts would be credited.”

Explaining the process, he said, “Bank of Ghana has released the money to the Ministry of education who has also released the money to NCTE. NCTE after that issued checks to the various campuses to be credited.”
