Parliamentary primary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region is currently underway.

The voting exercise started in 58 polling stations at 7:00 am and is expected to end at 5:00 pm.

13,602 delegates are expected to cast their votes in this primary and are allowed to use either the voter’s Identification cards or  the NDC membership cards.

Initially some delegates agitated for the creation of an extra polling station at the Kurugu electoral area to enable those commuting from long distance areas to cast their votes, which the executive complied with.

The ongoing exercise so far is peaceful, there are also enough police and other security officers in all the polling stations.

The contestants are Incumbent Member of parliament Abuga Pele, Legal practitioner Rudolf Nsowine Amega-etor and Mr. Jonathan Nyaaba.

The primary delayed due to a protracted case against the incumbent Member of Parliament Abuga Pele.

His contenders are challenging his eligibility to contest the parliamentary primary while standing trial in the Ghana National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) scandal.
