The struggle between factions of the Abease Royal Family and its kingmakers to install a new chief to man the affairs of the traditional area is causing tension and violence in the area.

The situation which is getting worsening by the day is due to the vacancy created by the death of the paramount chief of Abease, Nana Nwomakoma Kokoroko who died about 7 years ago thereby leaving the seat vacant.

The tension escalated last week when the Kyidom family single-handedly installed a new chief thereby infuriating one of the royal families and resulting in clashes which left seven people sustaining serious cutlass wounds.

Also one Kwabena Boateng believed to be behind the murder of Opanin Kwabena Agyei on June 22nd 2003 and among  those who inflicted the cutlass wounds on the injured has gone into hiding with other three  suspects on the police wanted list.

But according to ASP Bansa, the Commander in-charge of the Pru District Police, the police is alert on the ground and will make sure that such miscreants are prevented from disturbing the peace of the area.

He said after last week’s clashes, seven suspects were arrested out of which two have being granted bail on health grounds while the rest are still under remand pending investigations.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Prang who served as a one-time president of the Bono Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs Nana Kwadwo Nyarko 111 has expressed his disappointment about the inability of the stakeholders on the dispute to find a lasting solution to the problem which is a serious security concern to the people in the area.

Nana Kwadwo Nyarko however noted that when such chieftaincy disputes are allowed to fester it creates chaos and violence which sometimes leads to the death of people.

He has therefore admonished the adjudicators on the dispute to take the bull by the horn and take a decision that will solve the problem forever to allow an accepted chief to be installed.
