The Electoral Commission (EC) has given the assurance that it will delete names of other NHIS registrants whose names were not captured on the list of 56,000 presented to the Supreme Court.

The Commission, on Tuesday indicated that, the names of the 56,000 voters who had been captured on the register with the National Health Insurance card as proof of Ghanaian citizenship, had been deleted in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

[contextly_sidebar id=”idwmqBjKxOTyqYPfA2Yl7ICqYynxAlQF”]But speaking at a press conference organized by the Commission on Wednesday, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Mr. Samuel Tetteh said “any other NHIS card registrant who is found apart from the list which was presented by the Supreme Court will also be deleted.”

He said the Commission only deleted the names of persons it was convinced had registered with NHIS cards.

Re-registration

Mr. Tetteh further indicated that, persons whose names had been deleted from the electoral roll would be re-registered to make them eligible to vote in the upcoming polls.

“We will re-register all those persons involved and the modalities the Commission has to put in place to do that is; first of all, all such persons are to report at the district office of the Electoral Commission and prove their eligibility. They will go through the normal process of voting. You must be a citizen of Ghana, 18 years and you must also have an old existing ID card. You can also bring a passport and then two guarantors.”

Exhibition exercise

He also revealed that the Commission will undertake its exhibition exercise from July 18 to August 7.

“The exhibition exercise has been extended to 21 days not the normal 10.”

He stated that the exercise is relevant because it it “offers voters an opportunity to know where their polling station is.”
