The Presidency has confirmed receipt of a letter from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), demanding a response from the President over allegations of conflict of interest leveled against him for receiving a car gift from a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe.
The letter dated July 7, 2016, is in line with the investigations procedure regulations, 2010 (C I) 67.

The National Youth League of the Convention People’s Party and the Progressive People’s Party both petitioned CHRAJ to investigate the circumstances surrounding receipt of the vehicle.
A Source at the Communications Ministry who declined to go on record, however confirmed to Citi News that the presidency has received the written statement from CHRAJ and will accordingly respond in due course.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Youth League of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hardi Yakubu, is optimistic a logical conclusion will be reached on the matter.
“Our ultimate goal is to find out the whole truth surrounding the Ford gift saga- we want CHRAJ to establish whether there was an actual conflict of interest in terms of the president accepting the gift; also we would like CHRAJ to establish the kind of gifts that public officials can accept while in office’’ he said.
