Mahama cuts sod for construction of Bolga road

President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the Bolgatanga road in the Upper East Region.

The 110kilimeter road encompasses three bridges at Kolaa river, Red Volta, and white Volta respectively with a bypass linking  Bawku senior high school to Pusiga.

It will also link Bolgatanga to neighboring Togo.

The project awarded to Queiroz Galvao is in three phases and is expected to be completed in 910 days.

President Mahama disclosed this at Zebilla during his Accounting to the People Tour.

He said funding has been secured for the execution of the project.

“The Bolgatanga-Bulmakon road is an important link what we call the Eastern Corridor, as you are aware we are constructing various sections of the eastern corridor and the last segment left will run from Nakpaduri to Kulungugu and there will be a link this road and the eastern corridor road so that you will have another alternative of going through Garu-Tempane through Nakpaduri through Bimbila through Damongo through Nkwata to Hohoe all the way  to Tema roundabout.

“We need to give alternative roads so that agricultural products can move easily between the producing areas in the north and markets in the south. It will also ease the challenge drivers go through when plying the Bolga-Bawku road.Let me assure you that the funding for the road is available and any delay in the road work will not be due to funding,” the President stated.

Mr. Mahama also cut sod for the construction of the Tamme dam project that covers over 3,000 acres of lands in Guru.

The dam is expected to irrigate about hundred acres of farm lands to boost agriculture in the area.

He again inspected ongoing water expansion project in Bawku which will increase water supply in the area from 20% to 50% when completed.

He reiterated that expansion works on the Bolagatanga regional hospital is far advanced, adding that, the Saudi government has donated some money for the second phase of the hospital.

President Mahama later paid a courtesy call on the Bawku Naba, Naba Asigri Abugrago II and promised to construct a new municipal hospital and a new military barracks for the people of Bawku.

Naba Abugrago expressed gratitude for the President’s gesture.
