The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Krachi West Constituency of the Volta Region, has replaced the party’s Parliamentary nominee, Kenneth Gyemeh, after a primary on Sunday.
Over 400 delegates voted to elect Douglas Osei Nti to replace Mr. Gyemeh, who was reportedly sacked by party chiefs last month.
[contextly_sidebar id=”lNlLpvcqjM6lNAyRRuD4SpHWvTTzZFzr”]This development appears to have put to bed the status of the NPP’s former Krachi West parliamentary nominee which was being disputed following earlier reports that Mr. Gyemeh had been relieved of his nominee status.
Those reports came amidst accusations that Mr. Gyemeh was making the party unpopular in the constituency with his limited visibility and poor attitude a few months to the election, accusations he subsequently denied.
Party had no choice
Speaking to Citi News, Krachi West Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Mathias Banyaolaenso, said the party was left with no other choice than to replace Kenneth Gyemeh
“We realized the guy cannot help us in our constituency to win this coming elections. With all indications and what we are also hearing from the ground, we realized that he is in bed with a group of people which will not help the constituency,” he explained.
Mr. Banyaolaenso further complained that. Mr. Gyemeh was “not respectful to the constituency. He is not respecting the constituency at all… he doesn’t respect the elders, constituency executives and even party members.”
“Together with all these things, we had to send him out and find another and that is what happened on Sunday,” he stated.
