President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government is constructing a total of 400 small water systems throughout the country.
“Eleven similar projects that are under construction in the Upper West Region, are located in Wechiau, Nator, Goripie, Manwe, Jeffesi, Piina, the completed Wellembelle one and four other communities,” he said.
[contextly_sidebar id=”d6fUCyK6HDEYgbVlzpkpCFUXm1GLdXiD”]President Mahama announced this when he did a symbolic inauguration of all the water projects at the Wellembelle small town water project in the Sissala East District.
President Mahama who just ended a two-day “Accounting to the People,” tour of the Region said Ghana is leading in potable water production in West Africa and gave the assurance that more would be done to increase access to clean water.
He said the Wellembelle project will produce about 60,000 gallons of water on daily basis for Wellembelle and its surrounding villages.
President Mahama said about 80 percent of Ghanaians are enjoying power supply in their homes and offices, making Ghana the second largest producer of electricity in Africa apart from South Africa.
President Mahama said the situation had catapulted the development of many small medium enterprises in the country with its resultant creation of jobs.
He said 97 percent of children in Ghana are now enrolled in schools making education one of the highest growing sectors in the economy.
He advised parents to take advantage of government initiatives to send their children to school.
President Mahama said Ghana is the only country to have achieved gender parity in the basic school enrollment in the sub-region, adding that government would build on that to ensure that illiteracy is eliminated.
President Mahama was accompanied by Ministers of State, District Chief Executives and Party Executives.
