The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu has issued an apology to the Kumasi Traditional council.

This follows a call by the Asanteman Council for his immediate removal as the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

[contextly_sidebar id=”YC6OXWx7wfT1yJ5TemL6KbTWKMxOlu6v”]Mr. Bonsu is reported to have unilaterally removed Amoamanhene, Nana Agyenim Boateng from the Kejetia Market project board without informing the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Nana Agyenim later petitioned the Asanteman Council over the matter.

The Asanteman Council on Monday, July 4 summoned Mr. Bonsu over what it considers “unfavorable attitude” exhibited by him.

But in an apology letter to the Kumasi Traditional Council, Mr. Bonsu said “I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure.”

Protests against KMA over relocation

There has been confusion in Kumasi between the traders and the KMA over plans to reconstruct the Kumasi Central Market.

Traders at the Kejetia market have on several occasions staged demonstrations to protest the Assembly’s decision to relocate them.

The traders in a bid to stop the relocation requested for an injunction to be placed on the demolition of the Kejetia Bus Terminal meant to pave way for the redevelopment of the terminal but the court threw out their application.

APOLOGY TO THE KUMASI TRADITIONAL COUNCIL AND NANANOM OF ASANTEMAN.

I have taken notice of concerns raised by Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council over recent developments in the metropolis.

I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure.

Since assuming office as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, I have enjoyed tremendous support and cooperation from Nananom. Together, we have developed a healthy working relationship as stakeholders in the collective pursuit of the development, peace and progress of the Kumasi Metropolis.

I shall therefore continue to cherish my relationship with Nananom and take all the necessary traditional steps to repair and protect same.
