Wife of the Vice President, Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has donated quantities of bags of rice, maize, assorted fruits, two desktop computers and school bags as well as other educational materials for the staff and children of the Orthopedic Training Centre at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
Mrs. Amissah-Arthur, during the donation, commended the hospital staff for doing a good job at the centre and encouraged them to do more to ensure quality healthcare for the country.
According to her, she decided to assist the centre following a request by Father Campbell of the Christ the King Parish.
The Centre trains patients on how to use their orthopedic appliances and train young people on how to manufacture all the appliances needed by the physically challenged including leg braces, shoes, artificial limbs, splints and crutches.
The Second Lady was taken round the training centre by its Assistant Director, Mr. Raphael Amuzu Dzamashie, for her to obtain firsthand information about the operations of the facility.
She also visited the prosthetics and Orthotics Education and Training College, where she interacted with the principal Mr. Henry Larbi and students, to acquaint herself with how the school provides devices for persons with physical and mobility disability; and patients with orthopedic needs.
After the tour, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur said it was an eye opener for her, saying she was impressed with what she saw.
The principal of the hospital used the opportunity to thank the Second Lady for her kind gesture, especially in the area of providing resources for quality health care delivery in the country and urged her to continue with her good works.
He took the opportunity to call on individuals and organizations to familiarize themselves with the operations of the college through regular visits and also support the school.
As a crusader for environmental cleanliness, Mrs Amissah-Arthur lauded the authorities of the centre for ensuring cleanliness at the facility.
She was accompanied by the Regional Minister Mavis Frimpong and the MCE for the area. The Orthopedic Training Centre (OTC) was established by the Divine Word Missionaries in 1961.
The primary purpose of the centre is the rehabilitation of the physically challenged in Ghana and people from other countries.
