The Deputy Minister in charge of tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, wants staff of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), to formally petition the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) over their call for the dissolution of the school’s governing council.
The staff of GIMPA have been protesting against the governing council, and want the council immediately dissolved.

The staff members petitioned President John Mahama to cause the immediate dissolution to ensure the smooth running of the school.
Mr. Ablakwa however told Citi News that the concerned staff must formally petition the relevant institutions to commence investigations into their allegations.
“We want to point out that we have not been formally petitioned or notified. We also want to add that, normally we request that these matters are handled through the proper internal mechanisms. There are various communication channels that these matters can be raised.”
“We have the National Council for Tertiary Education which could have been requested to look into the concerns especially as this is a matter that concerns the University council. I do not know to what extent this represents the entire GIMPA community. Whoever has concerns can write to the NCTE or can write to the Ministry of Education and these concerns will be forwarded. If we look into them and we find that there is merit then we can escalate to the appointing authorities which is his excellency the President.”
Other concerns
The staff also accused the council of committing GIMPA to purchase a 1,000-acre land at Nsawam under unfavorable terms.
They further claimed that, the chairperson of the council, cancelled several programs of the school including the GIMPA law school moot court in 2016, and dissolved the business school advisory board soon after it was inaugurated.
