The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Chiana-Paga Constituency of the Upper East Region, has postponed the party’s upcoming parliamentary primary.

The primary, which was slated for July 9, will now be held on July 16, 2016.

Speaking to Citi News on the development, the NDC’s Upper East Regional Secretary, Donatus Akamugre, said the primary was postponed because of the delays in receiving election materials from the national secretariat.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9TBqEzXgv9iB4PS8Yh6eBFBnX00HrRki”]”This time, we have gone biometric, which means that the number of the Electoral College members has increased tremendously, and these election materials are produced at the national level and submitted to the Electoral Commission for them to supervise the election.”

He said, “so we realized that, at the time the materials were released to the Upper East Region, they are still on the way to get to the region for instance, so we realized if the materials come in late, and we try to struggle to get them to the grounds and it’s not properly distributed and people are not given proper information, it will cause a problem after the election.”

“This is why the party postponed the election to Saturday 16th July,2016. There will not be any further postponement of this election because today [Friday], we are expecting the materials in the region” Akamugre added.

He further confirmed to Citi News that all aspirants have been duly informed about the current development.

“The aspirants in the contest have received the news, it hasn’t gone down well with them because it involves money to campaign for the extra period, but it is better to take the decision to ensure that all the aspirants are satisfied with the election materials and the conduct of the election so that the final results will be accepted by all,” Akamugre noted.
