The Ashanti Regional Police Command has promised to crush what it calls political impunity in the Region.

“When we assume duty we realize that the problem of Kumasi is also based on the dispersal nature and the lack of accessibility to the Police. So far we have been able to create 40 police posts, add 11 police stations and 8 new Districts,” he added.

The Regional Police Commander was speaking during the maiden visit of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. John Kudalor to the region for the IGP-Dialogue series.

The IGP-Dialogue series according to Dr. John Kudalor is one of the measures to ensure a peaceful election.

“The purpose of this dialogue series is basically to meet key stakeholders in this year’s elections on proactive measures to ensure peaceful elections in November this year.”

Dr. Kudalor also commended the Ashanti Regional police command for their readiness to combat unforeseen chaos in the upcoming elections.

“I will say to butress the point made by my colleague, Inspector General Technical, that what we saw today means that the region is ready, if we have the elections conducted even tomorrow.”

The IGP during the 2-day working visit to the region inspected building projects ongoing at the Suame Divisional Police command, Asokwa Divisional Police command and the Oforikrom District Police command which are been constructed through Public-Private Partnerships.

He also inaugurated two district police stations, at Asaam in the Mampong Municipalility, funded solely by Mr. Yaw Marfo of Yesu Dea transport fame and Foase in the Atwima Foase district, funded by the Chief and town folks.

The Ashanti region has in the past few months experienced armed robbery incidents leading to the death of some residents as well as police officers.

Suspected armed robbers shot dead a 41-year-old man at his residence at Abuontem New Site, near Aputuogya in the Bosomtwe District, police officer, Corporal Frank Essel, in May was shot dead at the Open Space Hotel at Denkyehmouso, another police officer was shot dead along the Kwame Danso-Atebubu road, an employee of Kwamaman was shot dead among other reported robbery incidents.

These cases have terrified residents, however the Regional Police Commander, COP Nathan Kofi Boakye allayed their fears.

He revealed that over 40 armed robbers who are suspected to be in connection with the recent robbery cases have been arrested with some others identified by victims.
